Strong app alternative
Strong is a simple, well-rated workout log for programs you run yourself. If you want an app that writes the program, sets every weight, set and rep, and adjusts after each session, with leaderboards where lifts are checked on video, Lift Proven is the alternative. You can export your Strong data as a CSV and import it into Lift Proven.
What Strong does well
Strong is one of the longest-running workout logs and is widely liked. The US App Store shows 4.9 from 109K ratings. Here is what it does well:
- Simple, quick logging. A clean log for sets, reps and weight, with supersets, RPE, custom exercises and custom timers.
- Useful tools. A plate calculator, warm-up calculator and rest timer with Live Activity and Dynamic Island support on iPhone.
- Free to start. The free version has no cap on workouts but is limited to 3 custom routines.
- Your data is yours. Export to CSV at any time.
- Platforms. iPhone, Android and Apple Watch.
Strong PRO on the US App Store costs $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year, with lifetime options also listed. Strong's listing describes it as suited to progressive barbell routines such as Starting Strength or StrongLifts 5x5. You choose the program and the weights; Strong records them.
Where Lift Proven is different
1. A coach writes the program and sets every weight
With Strong you bring the plan. Lift Proven writes it for you. Choose strength, size or both, your level and 2 to 6 days a week, and it sets every weight, set and rep. After each session it adjusts from what you logged: miss reps and it adjusts, beat them and it moves you on. It runs phases (build muscle, get stronger, peak for a test day or meet), adds lighter weeks when you need them, fits sessions to 30, 45 or 60 minutes, and remembers exercise swaps. Programming draws on established methods such as 5/3/1, top sets with back-offs, and waves.
2. Verified leaderboards and gym crowns
Film your set and your phone checks depth and lockout on every rep. Verified lifts go on gym, county, country and world boards, by weight or by bodyweight (DOTS). Hold the crown for your gym's best squat, bench, deadlift or press, and challenge friends head to head with verified lifts only.
Logging still comes first
Lift Proven keeps the parts of a good log: fast set logging with targets, warm-ups and plates per side worked out, estimated maxes, strength levels and every personal record. Sessions save to Apple Health or Health Connect, and you can turn a PR or session into a share card.

How to move your history from Strong
Bringing your Strong history means the coach sets your first weights from what you have really lifted.
- In Strong, go to Settings › Export Strong data and share the CSV to Files (or email it to yourself).
- In Lift Proven, open Settings › Bring history from Strong or Hevy and choose the file.
- Tell Lift Proven whether the weights in the file are in kg or lb.
- Check the summary of sessions and sets matched. Any exercise it cannot match yet is listed as skipped.
- Tap Import.
Exporting does not change your Strong account, so you can run both while you decide.
Who should stay on Strong
- You already follow a program you like and only need to record it.
- You want a free log and 3 routines is enough.
- You log on Apple Watch.
- You want the simplest possible app with a long record of reviews.
Who might prefer Lift Proven
- You have been repeating the same weights and want a plan that moves you on.
- You do not want to work out percentages or progression yourself.
- You want to see where your lifts rank at your gym, with proof.
- You are happy to pay for Pro for the full coach, rankings and challenges.
Let Lift Proven write your program
Import your Strong history and the coach sets your weights from what you have actually lifted, then adjusts after every session.
Questions
- What is a good alternative to the Strong app?
- If you want the weights set for you and verified leaderboards, Lift Proven is an alternative. Hevy is a free log with a social feed, Boostcamp is built around coach programs, and StrongLifts 5x5 automates the 5x5 program. If you want a simple log for your own program, Strong is still a good choice.
- Can I import my Strong history into Lift Proven?
- Yes. In Strong, export your data from Settings as a CSV, then choose the file in Lift Proven under Settings, Bring history from Strong or Hevy, and tell it whether the file is in kg or lb.
- Does Strong have automatic progression?
- Strong's App Store listing and website we checked do not describe automatic weight progression. It is a log for programs you run yourself.
- Is Strong free?
- Strong has a free version with no cap on workouts, limited to 3 custom routines. Strong PRO is a paid upgrade.
